Two “Sure Bet” Emmy Predictions

They say that there is no such thing as a “sure bet.” We at Play The Future disagree. Here are two “can’t miss” forecasts for our Second Annual Emmy Awards Prediction Tournament.

1) Game of Thrones will NOT win Best Drama Series
2) You will show up in droves for our Emmy Tournament

Here’s how we know.

1) It isn’t even nominated. Yes, 23 nominations last year and zero this year. That’s what happens when your new season’s premiere takes place AFTER the eligibility deadline.
2) Last year’s Emmy Awards Tournament was one of our best nights ever, setting records for players and predictions made.

Well, that was easy. But the rest gets harder. The tourney features 15 antenna-raising predictions ranging from the basic (“How many Emmys will 22-time nominated Westworld win?”) to the sublime (“How many times will the audience laugh when Kumail Nanjiani is on stage presenting an award?”).

And it’s worth it. The Top 3 Futurists* will win a TV Season Box Set!

PTF’s Emmys Tournament. Start predicting as of Wednesday, Sept. 13 and watch results happen live as we play along with the show Sunday, Sept. 17.

We know you’ll be there!

PTF Makes Apple Watches the Optimal Place To Play Lightning Rounds and Check Results

Play The Future is proud to announce a brand new, international time zone–Lightning Round Time.

Starting July 12, the Lightning Round–PTF’s popular fast-paced, fleeting feature–will be the focal point of our debut Apple Watch app, available on countless wrists around the globe. You’ll never miss another one because you actually put your phone down for a few minutes.

The Lightning Round: one fast prediction, one rapid response, and one worldwide winner. So simple and satisfying to play, Apple Watch owners will find themselves flicking their wrists in “around the clock” anticipation. Coming at you when you least expect it, the Lightning Round’s limited timeframe and real-time subject matter brings a sense of urgent fun to the growing Apple Watch community.

But there’s more than just Lightning in PTF’s Apple Watch app. It also brings the thunder with up to the minute results for every PTF prediction; a natural and timely complement for PTF’s smartphone and tablet gameplay.

PTF’s Apple Watch app. Not a “mini iPhone app,” but designed watch-outwards for an optimal user experience. Electrifying, to say the least!

Winter isn’t Coming…IT’S ALREADY HERE! PTF’s Game of Thrones Tournament

After a long wait, Game of Thrones season 7 finally premieres this Sunday! As any avid fan of the show can attest, when you play the game of thrones, you learn to expect the unexpected…which is why the show makes a great Play The Future tournament! 😉

Can you predict the season premiere’s twists and turns? Find out by playing 10 ruthless questions about the fate of Jon Snow, Cersei Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen. Though you won’t be playing to sit the Iron Throne yourself, you’ll still earn plenty of bragging rights when you take the top spot on the leaderboard!

And finally, if you’re watching the episode on Sunday, let us know on Twitter; we’ll be watching too! (It’ll be mostly spoiler-free, we promise!)

Good luck! You have until 21:00 ET on Sunday to predict!

PTF’s Simple New Scoring System: Pure Precision = Points

In the category of listening to you, we just scored 100% accuracy.

Based on overwhelming player demand, the PTF team is happy to announce that as of July 3, 2017, we are re-adjusting our point scoring system, focusing exclusively on accuracy.

The way things used to be: points were awarded on an algorithmic mix of participation, accuracy and bonus points, 10 for every friend you challenged and beat.

The way things are now: put simply…Precision = Points.

Yes, friends are important, but now at PTF, accuracy rules. Nothing wrong with friendly competition; virtually every game is more fun when played with others, and that shouldn’t stop. But because so many of you take the fun of PTF so seriously, we’ve gone deep into our system and re-jigged the way we reward you.

    Sounds complicated, but it’s not.

To be more specific, on numeric entry predictions, accuracy points are calculated on this sliding scale:

  • 100% = 1000 pts
  • 90% = 900 pts
  • 50% = 500 pts
  • 10% = 100 pts
  • 0% = 0 pts
  • Using this scale, a 99.4% accuracy score will get you 994 points, a 67.3% score will earn you 673 points, an 18.1% score will result in 181 points…and so on.

On multiple choice predictions, we spread out point rewards depending on number of choices available. A correct answer always gets you 1000 points, but “runner up” points are rewarded proportionately to your result among the choices. For example:

  • 2 choices: 0 and 1000 pts
  • 3 choices: 0, 500 and 1000 pts
  • 4 choices: 0, 333, 667, and 1000 pts
  • 5 choices: 0, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 pts
  • 6 choices: 0, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000 pts
  • 7 choices: 0, 167, 333, 500, 667, 833, 1000 pts
  • 8 choices: 0, 143, 286, 429, 571, 714, 857, 1000 pts
  • Clear? 100 bonus points to everyone who understands.

Seriously, we appreciate your dedication and passion for playing the future, and we hope that this player-led adjustment results in a much-increased satisfaction score, and that by introducing it, we just scored big points with you.
