[March 17th, 2017 at 4:30 PM ET]

Waiting for the Final Rose…The Bachelor Finale Tournament!

Well as we predicted, the finale was a rollercoaster of emotions for everyone involved. In the end, Nick picked Vanessa to be his bride, and 68.2% of you knew he would!

Our players were right on the nose (and beat the experts) when it came to which knee Nick would go down on, how many times he’d say the word “love,” and how many times he’d cry. Wow! Without further ado, here are our winners:

Congratulations! You’ll all be receiving Beauty Gift Cards so make sure to check your email later today.

As for everyone else, thank you for playing. You’re all winners in our books for sitting through the finale with us! 😉

[March 13, 2017 at 8:00 PM EST]
The final predictions are in! Here’s where they stand. The episode is already underway and we’re hard at work tallying everything! Enjoy watching and stay tuned! 😉

[March 13, 2017 at 4:45 PM EST]
There’s only about 3 hours left before the show…that means you only have 3 hours left to predict! Don’t nap, make your choices! 😉 The show’s creator, Mike Fleiss, tweeted that the finale is going to be “historic.” Could there be a Bachelor first? We can’t wait to find out!

[March 13, 2017 at 1:00 PM EST]
Our experts’ predictions are in! Everyone is agreed that Vanessa will be tonight’s winner, and that Nick will get down on his right knee, but that’s where the similarities end! No one can agree on a dress color, and PTF Players don’t agree with the experts about the diamond ring cut. We’ll just have to see how it all plays out tonight! Make sure you make your predictions before 8 PM EST!

[March 13, 2017 at 10:30 AM EST]
It all comes down to the final rose tonight! Will one of the women win Nick’s heart…or will he send both of them home? Tonight’s Bachelor finale will have lots of tears and heartfelt speeches. Do you have the emotional intelligence to handle it? Get your cheese pasta ready, because we’re making it a game!

Play all 10 Bachelor Finale questions in the app today and you could win a Beauty Gift Card! The #1 player will take home $75, while #2-10 will win $20.

Your predictions will be pitted against Bachelor experts Stacey Becker from, and Becca and Jorie from Bach Fantasy!

Stacey is a writer living in NYC. Disguised as a corporate lawyer by day, she circumvents any serious legal discussions in favor of analyzing relationships, her relateable day-to-day adventures and all things Bachelor. She blogs at, and is a contributing writer at Thought Catalog. Her book, Knot the One, is a memoir on getting dumped before her wedding. Now, she enjoys jogging in Central Park, playing ping pong with her husband, thinks of excuses to avoid bridal showers…and plays in Bachelor tournaments! 😉

Becca and Jorie met as freshmen at Boston University. They share a deep and abiding love for snark, guacamole, Paul Rudd, Beyonce’s choreography, and their website, Becca currently lives and works in digital marketing in NYC. She buys too much lipstick for the amount of time she spends re-watching 30 Rock in her bed. Jorie lives and writes in Denver. She is a helicopter parent to her two dogs. They’re confident in their Bachelor predictions!

Think you can take them on? Come back soon to see their predictions!

Selection Sunday: Predict the Picks!

[Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 1:30 PM EST]
And there you have it! The remaining results are in, and it looks like our Futurists’ median predictions managed to best Dr. Tim Chartier’s Research Team on 3 questions!

We asked Dr. Tim for his thoughts on the tournament, and he said:
“Predictive sports analytics is the name of the game, so to speak, in my work. Usually, I’m trying to predict the bracket! Play the Future was a fun way, along with my student researchers, to think outside the bracket, have fun, and test our predictions against the crowd!

My group leans on data. So, as much as we could, we tried to find data to help with our answers. Yet, the questions posed by Play the Future are clever. Math and searching for data alone isn’t going to help you win. At some point, you make a prediction and see what happens. But, isn’t that part of life itself? Sometimes, we do all we can to figure something out but some things won’t be clear until they happen. So, you make your choice. In the case of Play the Future, I make my choice and my phone alerts me on when I learn how I did!”

Dr. Tim ended up ranking 7th out of thousands of Futurists, which was an amazing showing. To the six Futurists that ranked higher…you should probably apply for a spot on his research team 😉 In any case, that’s our Selection Sunday tournament all wrapped up. Make sure you’re on the app tomorrow, as that’s when we’ll be launching our St Patrick’s Day tournament!

[Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:30 AM EST]
Well, uhhh…that was unexpected! Turns out our Selection Sunday tournament will actually conclude on Wednesday, when the remaining seeds are determined via the First Four games. ‘Til then, you can check out how our Futurists predictions have stacked up against Dr. Tim Chartier’s Research Team so far!

(P.S. The Bachelor Finale tournament is tonight. Make your predictions on the app ASAP!)

[Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 12:30 PM EST]
It’s the day before the tournament, and we’re feeling excited! It seems Dr. Tim’s Research Team will be playing their cards close to their chest ’til Sunday, but in the meantime, you can check out the latest median numbers from our players above!

[Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 3:30 PM EST]
Aaaaaaand our first batch of Futurist predictions are in! We’re still waiting on our experts to make theirs, but we’re excited to see how they’ll stack up against one another. How do you feel about our players’ predictions so far? 🙂

[Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 10:00 AM EST]
It’s the most glorious time of the year for college basketball fans: March Madness! You don’t have to wait until Sunday to start celebrating because you can predict the picks right now in our Selection Sunday Tournament! The person with the #1 bracket will win $75 for Basketball Gear, and numbers #2-10 will win $20.

For this tournament, you’ll be facing off against the experts! Think you’ll be able to beat them? 😉

Dr. Tim Chartier is the Vice President of the Mathematical Association of America and a professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Davidson College. He specializes in sports analytics, and has worked with the NBA, NFL, ESPN’s Sport Science program, and NASCAR. He’s also been a valued resource for Bloomberg TV, NPR, the CBS Evening News, USA Today and the New York Times! He’ll be crunching the numbers along with his research team to hopefully make the most accurate predictions possible!

Good luck to all our players, and stay tuned as the first predictions roll in!

Play The Future Goes To Hyrule!

[March 6, 2017 at 8:30 PM ET]
Wow! What an unpredictable tournament! The biggest upset was definitely when a GameFAQs user uploaded around 100 screenshots at the last second today, throwing off the majority of the predictions! As for me, I finished in 20th place. Not too shabby, but not nearly as awesome as our top 10! We’ll make our official winner announcement tomorrow so make sure to keep an eye on our social media channels. 😉 Thank you to EVERYONE who played!

[March 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM ET]
The tournament is half-way done! 6 results have been put up, with 6 left to go! I gotta say that I’m not doing too well – maybe there’s something to be said about predicting closer to the expiry time. 😉 You guys certainly were closer to the result for the craigslist prediction. I really didn’t think that so many Nintendo Switches would be up for sale so quickly! I can’t wait to see the rest of the results!

[March 6, 2017 at 10:30 AM ET]
Hey Futurists, it’s Brittni. Today’s the day! Results for the tournament will be rolling in all day. The first result has already gone up, and most of you agreed with my prediction…but I was wrong! Unlike some Zelda games, Link doesn’t start off in a town in Breath of the Wild. There were very few characters to interact with in the first half hour of play. With a game as expansive as this one (seriously the map is HUGE), I should have guessed that! Let me know on Twitter @PTFNow if you predicted better than I did! 😉

[March 5, 2017 at 11:30 AM ET]
The dawn of the Final Day! 😉 No, but really, it’s the last day to participate in the tournament! The questions expire tonight, so make your predictions today. The results will be rolling in all day tomorrow! 🙂 Now, if you excuse me, this PTF staffer has some Breath of the Wild to play…

[March 4, 2017 at 11:30 AM ET]
The predictions are really varied! Though as people pick up the game and start playing, we’re betting they will get more accurate. Are some of you holding off until right before the predictions expire? 😉 We see your strategy!

[March 3, 2017 at 12:00 PM ET]
HAPPY SWITCHMAS EVERYONE! That’s right, today is the launch of the Nintendo Switch AND the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Some people already picked it up at midnight launches across North America! Now to the stats…it looks like PTF Futurists are expecting many of the consoles to be available for purchase on craigslist on Monday, despite all the hype! Let us know on Twitter @PTFNow if you’re planning on picking one up!

[March 2, 2017 at 4:30 PM ET]
The first predictions are in! Some interesting numbers – most of then higher than our expert’s predictions!;) Some of the questions will be easier to gauge once the game comes out tomorrow. Make sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page for live video of Brittni picking up her game!

[March 2, 2017 at 10:30 AM ET]
Hey Futurists! PTF’s Brittni here. Get your Master Sword ready because all weekend long, Play The Future goes to Hyrule! To honor the release of the new Zelda game, Breath of the Wild, we have 12 challenging questions about everyone’s favorite hero in the app.

If you didn’t manage to snag a pre-order…don’t worry! The #1 player will win an $80 Gaming Gift Card, and numbers 2 to 10 will win a $20 one!

You’ll also be competing against me, Play The Future’s resident Zelda expert. You can see my predictions above, and we’ll be updating the PTF Median predictions daily. Good luck! 😉

Futurist Profile: Sean S.

No mistake here, Sean S. is an Oscar winner.

Not only was Sean ranked #1 for accuracy and #2 for total points in PTF’s Predict The Oscars Tournament, he even beat out expert Ben Zauzmer (#10 accuracy) and more than 5,000 other Futurists.
With this pedigree, we sat down with him to find out some of his secrets…

Sean S.
Age: 30
Location: Las Vegas, Nevada
Occupation: UPS Warehouse Worker
Fun Facts: The only movie from the awards I have seen is Arrival. I also have a 1 and a half year old girl with another girl on the way in a month! Also, my wife had my mom as her first grade teacher (we found this out on our first date!)

Congratulations! You had the most accurate predictions in our Predict The Oscars Tournament. How does it feel?

Feels pretty surprising! I don’t know the total amount of players but I feel like This something to actually brag about! Haha. Maybe I should go play the lotto…I must have the magic touch!

What was your process for making a prediction on the multiple choice questions?

I tried to go with the favorites for the most part. I almost picked Denzel Washington to win over Casey Affleck for best actor but changed my mind at the last minute. I am just mad I missed the best picture! Almost a perfect score!

And what was your process for making a prediction on the numerical questions?

I tried to use the hints as best as I could for these, that and lots of Googling! 😉 I remember for the total number of #Oscars tweets one it said how many had tweeted for the Grammys, and I knew the Oscars would be more popular so I guessed based on that.

Awesome. Last question: what everyday PTF questions do you enjoy playing the most, and why?

It’s always tough when a question has such a wide answer range or just random luck involved so I tend to like the twitter and stock questions the best ATM. I feel like there is actually some base to go off of on those to help you get a pretty close answer.

Sean S.’s Results for PTF’s Predict The Oscars Tournament:

Predict the Oscars!

[Feb. 27 at 12:00 AM EST]
IT’S ALL OVER, FOLKS! What a mix-up at the end of the night! We were freaking out! In case you didn’t see, La La Land had been announced the Best Picture winner, only to be told a few minutes later that there was a mistake. Moonlight was the real winner! And guess what? 2.7% of you were all-star prognosticators and predicted it to win! WOW! You guys beat all the experts! 😉

Casey Affleck and Ryan Gosling were head-to-head in Best Actor predictions for a good week. However, 34.8% of PTF Players were right in predicting that Casey would win the Oscar!

Pat yourselves on the back because PTF Players predicted the outcome of Hollywood’s Biggest Night!

The winners will be announced tomorrow! Goodnight!

[Feb. 26 at 8:30 PM EST]
Here are the final prediction percentages! The show is about to begin…have your popcorn ready? 😉

[Feb. 26 at 12:30 PM EST]
OMG! It’s OSCAR SUNDAY! Here’s where the predictions stand right now. Are you confident in yours? If you haven’t made them yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? The red carpet starts at 19:00 ET, which is when the predictions expire. You have until then to deliberate. During the ceremony, keep your eye on the app as results will be rolling in live! We’ll see you again at 19:01 ET for the final percentages. 😉

[Feb. 25 at 11:30 AM EST]

[Feb. 24 at 2:00 PM EST]
Seems there’s a general consensus pick for every category except Best Actor. Think there’ll be any upsets? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!

[Feb. 23 at 2:30 PM EST]
Expert predictor Ben Zauzmer (@BensOscarMath) has posted the rest of his predictions! Click here to see the updated list.

[Feb. 22 at 2:00 PM EST]
Introducing, Ben Zauzmer (@BensOscarMath), a Harvard grad who uses his math skills to make Oscars predictions for The Hollywood Reporter:

Ben has made his predictions in the app, and as the results start rolling in on Sunday night, you’ll be pitted head-to-head with him on the results screen! Good luck! 😉

You can check out his full breakdown of Oscar probabilities for each category here.

[Feb. 21 at 12:00 PM EST]
The Oscars may be the biggest event of awards’ season, but dozens of statues have already been given out to honor last year’s films. From the smaller critics association awards to the Golden Globes, here are the top winners so far:
Best Picture:
Moonlight: 5 awards
La La Land: 4 awards

Best Actor:
Casey Affleck: 8 awards (WHOA!)
Ryan Gosling: 1 award

Best Actress:
Isabelle Huppert: 5 awards
Natalie Portman: 3 awards
Emma Stone: 1 award

Best Supporting Actor:
Mahershala Ali: 8 awards

Best Supporting Actress:

Michelle Williams: 5 awards
Viola Davis: 3 awards

Best Director:
Barry Jenkins (Moonlight): 5 awards
Damien Chazelle (La La Land): 3 awards

Only time will tell if the Oscars will add to their growing collection! 😉

[Feb. 20 at 12:00 PM EST]
PTF’s Brittni has been trying to watch all the Best Picture nominees before the big show, and though she predicts that La La Land will take home the trophy, she really wishes that it would go to Hidden Figures! She still has yet to watch Moonlight though! 😉 Aaaand…as of right now, Moonlight has only 2.7% of the predictions.

[Feb. 19 at 8:00 PM EST]
It’s officially one week before the Oscars! The percentages haven’t fluctuated much, and Ryan Gosling is holding onto the top spot for PTF Best Actor predictions. At this rate, the only question in people’s minds is how many Oscars will La La Land actually win? It has 14 nominations, which ties it with 2 other movies for most Oscar nominations in history!

[Feb. 18 at 12:00 PM EST]
Ryan Gosling did it! He overtook Casey Affleck for Best Actor predictions. This is at odds with all of the experts listed, but we think our Futurists know what they’re talking about! He did win this year’s Golden Globe for Best Actor, after all!

[Feb. 17 at 3:00 PM EST]
Another day, another prediction update! PTF Futurists are making their predictions, but the nominees in the PTF column haven’t changed yet. There seems to be a consensus…except for Best Actor! Now, only .1% of predictions separates Casey Affleck from Ryan Gosling!

[Feb. 16 at 1:30 PM EST]
The race between Casey Affleck and Ryan Gosling for Best Actor is getting even tighter (Gosling now has 36.9% of the predictions), while the divide between Best Actress nominees gets even wider! Emma Stone is the clear front-runner there with 73.7% of the predictions so far!

[Feb. 15 at 4:30 PM EST]
The first day of predictions is wrapping up, and many of our Futurists agree with the experts (and everyone else) that La La Land will clean up at the Oscars! The only category that seems up in the air at this point is Best Actor. 38.9% of our Futurists think the Oscar will go to Casey Affleck, while 36.8% think it will go to Ryan Gosling! Unlike Variety and, only 16.7% of our Futurists think it will go to Denzel. One thing is for sure, however, we’re really excited to find out the result on the 26th!

[Feb. 15 at 9:00 AM EST]
It’s the Superbowl of Showbiz, the one night where film fans the world over tune in for a glitzy, competitive event that’s way more important than just the commercials within it!

From now until Sunday, February 26th Play The Future will be there turning it into the type of interactive tournament you’ve come to love…and play!

Predict 20 questions not just about the nominees, but about who’s wearing what, about what Jimmy Kimmel’s going to do and about what inevitable craziness will transpire. Whether you’re gaga for La La, or dancing in the Moonlight, this is your night to predict the unpredictable!

And just like the ceremony itself, we’ve got lots of prizes for lots of winners–$100 for movie tickets to the top point getter, and $50 for movie tickets for numbers 2 to 10.

So start predicting today; this special tournament goes for a whopping 12 days…time enough to catch every nominated movie and REALLY show your stuff! And the winner is…

PTF Grammys Tournament: Making Music’s Biggest Night Even Bigger

Well, to quote the great Bugs Bunny, that’s all folks! Just to recap a few highlights:
– Chance The Rapper won his first (and second and third) Grammy tonight.
– Beyoncé stunned us all with a breathtaking visual performance, and her lil baby bump.
– Adele swept the 3 “big” Grammy awards (including Album of the Year, #SorryBey).
Congratulations to the majority of Futurists that accurately predicted Album/Song/Record of the Year, and our condolences to the 45.4% of you that inaccurately predicted Best New Artist. We’ll be revealing the tournament winner tomorrow, so stay tuned!

[Feb. 12th, 20:00 PM EST]
And we’re off! The Grammys are underway, and we’ve already seen some amazing live performances (as well as a brilliant opening sketch by James Corden).
P.S. – Sorry to disappoint the 45.4% of you that voted for The Chainsmokers, but Chance The Rapper took home the award for Best New Artist!

[Feb. 11th, 11:00 AM EST]
Less than 48 hours until the Grammys begin! Although there hasn’t been a huuuge shift in prediction percentages, Adele has trended down slightly in every category except Record Of The Year since our last update.

[Feb. 10th, 4:30 PM EST]
Jeez louise! We’ve already had 2,353 predictions pour in for our Album of the Year question…and there’s still 2 more days to go before the ceremony!

[Feb. 10th, 12:00 PM EST]
The Chainsmokers seem to be our Futurists’ favorites to win the coveted Best New Artist award…but Chance The Rapper isn’t too far behind! Check out the full prediction breakdown below:
The Chainsmokers: 44.8%
Chance The Rapper: 39.1%
Kelsea Ballerini: 11.2%
Maren Morris: 2.8%
Anderson .Paak: 2.0%

[Feb. 9th, 5:30 PM EST]
The gap between Adele and everyone else in the Song of the Year category just gets wider and wider as more Grammy predictions are made! Here’s the full breakdown:
Hello (Adele): 63.6%
Formation (Beyoncé): 19.9%
7 Years (Lukas Graham): 7.1%
Love Yourself (Justin Bieber): 6.6%
I Took A Pill In Ibiza (Mike Posner): 2.8%

[Feb. 9th, 12:00 PM EST]
Not much movement since last night! PTF Players are still rooting for Adele to win in 3 out of the 4 categories! In the Best New Artist category, Chance The Rapper is gaining momentum with 39.3% of the predictions. Watch out, Chainsmokers! 😉

[Feb. 8th, 4:30 PM EST]
Here are the numbers for Day 1 of our Grammys Tournament! PTF Players seem to think that Adele’s in it to win it! She has the majority of the predictions for three categories. The only category that players seem unsure about is Record of The Year. In that category, Beyoncé’s Formation is almost on par with Adele with 37.7% of the predictions!

[Feb. 8th, 9:00 AM EST]
Music is magical when listened to alone, but let’s face it, there’s nothing like the buzz of experiencing the beat, the rhythm, the spirit of song, with others.

And such is the appeal of PTF’s Grammys Prediction Tournament, where the interactive gameplay with–and against!–others makes music’s biggest night exponentially bigger.

The Big Game Tournament!

Drumroll please…here are the final results!

The Patriots won the Big Game in overtime (the first in the Championship’s history)! 61.9% of our players were right, and beat out a couple of NFL experts!

The final score ended up being 34-28 for the Patriots! PTF Players’ median prediction was WAY closer than that of EA Sports and David Steele. In fact, a whopping 42 PTF Players got this question 100% correct!

Tom Brady broke the record for passing yards in a single game! NO ONE saw this coming, except PTF Player, Jennifer H. She predicted 462!

Lady Gaga opened her performance with a rendition of “God Bless America”, then sang one line of “Edge of Glory”…and then went into a full performance of “Poker Face”! What matters is that 8.7% of PTF Players beat USAToday’s FTW and CBS’ Will Brinson! 😉

(Click the image to see it in all its glory!) No surprise here after the Patriots’ comeback in the second half of the game! Tom Brady wins his 5th Big Game ring, and his 4th Big Game MVP Award…and 48.5% of PTF Players saw it coming! 😉

Thanks for watching & playing the Big Game with us! Come back next weekend for the Grammys Tournament!
